5th Grade

Fifth grade is an exciting year, and we strive to make this a special experience for our students.

Our curriculum includes the study of interesting historical topics, from immigration through 9/11. Students will be completing science investigations related to electricity, cells, and changes in the Earth. Math topics build on the foundation set in fourth grade with fractions, decimals, and problem solving. Each quarter’s literacy work begins with a carefully selected core text and involves many opportunities to write for different purposes. We will have content-based days interspersed throughout the year, such as Immigration Day.

Fifth grade students will have an opportunity to participate in science tasks with lower grade students in which they develop and share an investigation. The grade level will also be taking on a service project in the improvement of the ladybug garden. We will have our big field trip to Atlanta in May, and several other field trip experiences especially for these students.
